The Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota Motors is making some cars exclusively for the Indian markets. The sedan Etios launched in 2010 is one such car. The Toyota Kirloskar Motors India Limited, the Indian subsidiary has launched the hatchback version the Etios Liva car in 2011which has been updated in 2013. To increase their share in the small car sector they have launched a crossover vehicle the Etios Cross in 2014. The combined sales figures of the Liva and the Cross come to about 1600 units per month.
The Etios Liva has more variants to select from. The 5 petrol and the 5 diesel variants of the Liva are priced in the range of Rupees 5.0 to 7.21 lakh. The Etios Cross comes in 2 petrol and 2 diesel variants priced Rupees 6.23 to 7.72 lakh. There are no auto transmission variants for both the cars.
The Etios Cross is more like a mini SUV as there are some SUV like features incorporated on the body. The basic external features of both the cars include high intensity head and turn lights, some characteristic lines on the bonnet, new 12 spoke alloy wheels and electrical body coloured ORVMs with blinkers. The Etios Cross has additional SUV features like the silver bull bar and the skid plate along with the black bumper, stylish roof rails black cladding on all the sides and the carving of the name on the claddings.
The cabins of the Liva and the Cross have modern looks with similar standard features like a manual AC, child lock facility and internally adjustable body coloured ORVMs. The 2 air bags are missing in the base variants of the Cross, but have an integrated music system for the base variants. The top variants also have ABS, EBD, central locking, power steering, tilt column, power windows and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth.
The Etios Liva and Cross have good fuel efficiencies 17.71 kmpl with 1.2 L petrol engine and 23.55 kmpl with 1.4 L diesel engine. The 1.5L petrol engine of the Cross gives a mileage of 16.78 kmpl.
The 3775 mm long Liva is shorter than the 3895 long Cross. The wheel base is 2460 mm, the ground clearance 170 mm and the boot space 251 litres for both the cars. The Liva Sportivo is 4265 mm long with a wheel base of 2550 mm and a boot of 595 litres. The tyres are R14 type, but the Sportivo variants have R15 tyres at the front.
Larger boots of the Sportivo variant and the lesser prices are the plus points of the Liva. The SUV like features make the Cross ideal for long tours also.
